Choy Li Fut Kung Fu Croydon

Choy Li Fut was founded in 1836 by Chan Heung, who named the system in honour of his teachers of Choy Gar Kung Fu, Li Gar Kung Fu, and finally Fut (or Buddha) Gar Kung Fu, developed to honour the Shaolin roots of the system. Combining elements from various Chinese martial arts, including the powerful movements of the Southern Shaolin animal forms, and the circular, twisting, agile movements of Northern forms, Choy Li Fut is a self-defence system incorporating everything from long and short range punches, kicks, sweeps and take-downs, joint locks, grappling, and pressure point attacks.

Like Choy Li Fut, Wing Chun Kung Fu utilizes every possible limb in striking, but in contrast to Choy Li Fut’s circular, sweeping movements, Wing Chun employs a more direct attack, with an aim to rapidly close the opponent down.

While Choy Li Fut remains a popular martial art, it is currently difficult to find an authentic school outside of China. At Kung Fu Schools, we teach authentic Wing Chun with a lineage that can be traced back to the Southern Shaolin temple period.
